Jumilla
Bodegas Bleda’s is about 62 miles from the Mediterranean, north of the town of Jumilla in the D.O.P. Jumilla. It was in 1915 that Antonia Bleda Garcia became known for quality wines. He also changed the course of exporting from bulk wine to bottled fine wine in Jumilla.
His efforts put Bleda on the map for exports, which was also accelerated by the fact that Jumilla was not affected by phylloxera. To this day, Bleda remains a family endeavor.
The dry, arid climate of Jumilla is perfect for the Monastrell grape that thrives here, despite the heat and lack of rain. Ripeness, low yields and spectacular fruit characterize the wines of Bleda. No irrigation is employed in growing the Monastrell varietal and the vineyards are organic. They also produce other
varietals such as Merlot/Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo mostly as a compliment to Monastrell- the king of the vineyard,
The total vineyard area is 250 ha, which seems large, but the reality is that the yields are so low that this amount of land is needed to provide a great pricing/quality ratio. The elevation is from 1,968’ to 2,624’
.
