Valcuerna
Rioja (Alta)
The owners of Bodegas Valcuerna are two families named Benes. Miguel and Julia Benes along with José Alfonso and Natividad Benes. Miguel and José Alfonso are brothers and Julia and Natividad are sisters. From these unions each had two sons José Miguel and Arturo and Sergio and Adrián. This is the
fifth generation to work the family land.
They are seeking to capture the unique character of their vineyards, with limited production free of artifice and pretension. The entire management and production is carried out by the family.
The four cousins manage their family Rioja Alta vineyard located in the small village of Cordovin (pop.189). The name Valcuerna comes from a plot of 24 parcels that has been harvested since their grandfather’s time.
The total area under vine is 42 ha with 152 parcels and is separated by:
9ha + 90 year old Garnacha and Viura
16ha 35-90 year old vines Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura
17ha 3-35 year old vines Tempranillo, Garnacha
The complexity of the wines are heavily implemented by the age of the vines.
All surrounded by the Sierra de la Demanda mountain range.
