Carlos Moro

Rioja (Alta)

Moro

Created in 2014 outside the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the very heart of Rioja Alta, this winery is set apart by the passion of one man and his many talents as a farmer, grower and maker of wines: this man is Carlos Moro. Extending underground to impressive depths, this winery sets out with the aim of setting the standards in wine-making, in a region in which the hallmarks required to become a benchmark are excellence and quality.

Carlos Moro is from the 1953 vintage, an agricultural engineer with a master's degree in oenology and viticulture

and with studies in business economics. He worked in the 1980s at the Ministry of Agriculture in Madrid. But it was in 1988 when he decided to return to his roots and begin his own dream by founding Bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero in Ribera del Duero.

Driven by a team of oenologists responsible for selecting a collection of excellent plots on the left bank of the Ebro River with its epicentre in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. His winery in RIoja-Alta is notable for its 150-metre underground cellar, with capacity for 2,000 barrels that allows for natural and homogeneous ageing in barrels.

The passion and viticultural knowledge of the entire winery's oenological team have allowed them to select systems with greater verticality and care for the grapes, with gravity movement systems, which allow for alcoholic and also malolactic fermentation processes in tanks with great thermal inertia, such as those made of classic concrete.

Eleven plots: (Las Ginebras/El Acueducto/La Torrera/Larrazuri/Cuba Negra/Garugele/Altabaza/Los Arenales/Senda del Convento/San Martin/Gallomate) make for site select blends for the Oinoz selections.
